It was greater than I imagined. My first thought was, Where am I going to store this thing?!? And indeed, which was before we remodeled our kitchen, so storage WAS a challenge. A crock pot got booted out of the cabinet to create room for my new appliance.
I took out your instruction manual. I was immediately confused. It was like reading Chinese. Oh. It had been Chinese. The manual has a number of different languages printed. Once I found the English section, things were slightly better; although, it did take reading over several sections a couple of times to really know the way all the parts and buttons worked.
I knew the only method through that manual would be to actually plug my Instapotguide.Org in and then use it! Maybe wild rice was a safe choice. Sure enough, it worked and cut down the cooking time! (Truthfully, the recipe worked perfectly for me, but others have used it since and also have reported there was plenty of liquid left. Similar to soup than rice, even though rice was cooked nicely; they just were required to drain it.)
I understood making bone broth. Which was simple enough. And That I definitely loved not having my crock pot tied up for 3 or 4 to 5 days while my broth simmered. Yet, I couldnt appear to get past bone broth and wild rice.
Figuring Out How To Use My Instant Pot – I truly dont remember the first thing I attempted. Maybe it had been brown rice? Honestly, I dont remember the actual way it been found. (It was probably fine, or I might have been really discouraged.) I remember being really impressed at how fast whatever it absolutely was cooked. I did utilize the Manual setting, so that it was my first-time actually pressure cooking.
But I also remember being somewhat confused by the instruction manual. So confused, actually, which i dont have any idea in which the instruction manual is anymore Learning by watching and doing thats the way i prefer it. When my pal Wardee announced her Pressure Cooking eCourse, I was saved! Finally! I could WATCH and Figure out how to use my Instant Pot!

When Things Begun To Turn AroundI remember it as if it was yesterday
My partner was coming home for lunch. I had remembered to thaw the stew meat, but neglected to put it inside the crock pot for beef stew. After I glanced on the clock that read 11:07 and he could be the place to find eat out at noon uh-oh, I was in danger! What was I planning to do concerning the stew? Hardly anything else was thawed! We had no leftovers!
So I improvised. I simply started adding my personal favorite spices (cumin, chili powder, garlic) towards the meat, used the Saute feature, then pressure cooked it and prayed it could turn out. Plus it did! Not only did I make lunch in 53 minutes, I made beef stew in 53 minutes! And it also was delicious! That does that??? Me! From that moment on, I knew Id be perfectly. My Instant Pot has become a trusted kitchen friend that Ive since trusted to help make more lunches and dinners in a hurry.
Problems With The Instant Pot
The list of pros far outweighs the list of cons, but it wouldnt be an honest review of the Instant Pot without full disclosure in the negatives, too, would it? In my opinion, they are the top 4 issues with the Instant Pot:
#1 Smells – The rubber seal in the lid generally seems to really hold on to smells from whatever was previously cooked. For your longest time, my rubber seal smelled like cumin and chili powder because of big batch of beans I cooked. It enjoyed a very distinct Tikka Masala smell after cooking Tikka Masala. We never noticed any off tastes inside the foods, but the smell was definitely present. We were also hand-washing then because this was before we remodeled our kitchen and set in a dishwasher.
Since were washing both stainless pot and also the rubber seal in the dishwasher, there are no smells! If you are hand-washing, perhaps a long soak in baking soda for that rubber seal is the ticket to smell-removal? I would recommend keeping an extra seal or 2 available just in case.
#2 ?Too Full = Sputtering Bean Liquid Everywhere. I sprouted about 4 cups of chickpeas to create my Sprouted Kale Hummus. Of course, I needed to cook all of the beans at the same time, so I figured it may practice it quicker inside the Instant Pot. Unfortunately, 4 servings of swollen beans this type of water required to cover were just a lot of inside the pot. Bean liquid was dripping zecsbq in the catch on the back and sputtering out from the pressure valve. It produced a HUGE mess. Granted, I was employing a 6-quart Instant Pot. I am just fairly confident the 8-quart Instant Pot would handle larger quantities of foods much more cleanly.
#3 Youre gonna want 2. I promise. As soon as you work out how awesome the Instant Pot is, youre likely to apply it all. the. time. And you?e planning to desire to double up. I learned this the tough way once i made Instant Pot Yogurt the first time. Poor me. I needed to visit without my Instant Pot for a couple of stinkin days! Ive since ordered the 8-quart! I have a friend who actually has 3 Instant Pots!
